[News] Busta Rhymes Signs To Cash Money / YMCMB

Busta Rhymes just signed with Young Money Cash Money, is this a good look for him?

[Interview] Erk The Jerk Interviews With Rap Industry

Heard the new album.. it's dope! You got some serious joints on there. This album was a 2 year process, correct? why so long?

it took so long because of the demand. I didnt feel the demand for an "ERK" album was there. I'm not a fan of force feeding the listeners. Had to make sure everything was lined up correctly first.
You gonna be doing any tours, shows to promote the album?

Yes. I'm always Doing club dates and shows. And have plans on doing some tour dates coming this spring.

Collabin' with bay legends Too short and B-legit, how did that go down? Any funny stories that stick out working with either of them (studio time, etc..)?

I had an office upstairs from $hort's studio a few years back and we jut linked up. I remember Watchin him lay his "favorite word" over one of my beats and thinkin "yes" I made it. Haha I had met B-legit a few times and he was always a solid dude. He linked me with Richie Rich and we all did a song. It was crazy growing up listening to them and then to b producing a song was a good learning experience.

You've been building your buzz for a few years now out in the bay.. How has the process been so far developing and building outside of theBay?
The game is almost all Internet now. So it's as hard, but I guess the key is making sure the "fans, bloggers" see your face and know that you have something worth listening too. Being on MTV doesn't hurt either.

At what point did you know that rap was what you wanted to do fulltime? what drew you to it, etc..?
I still don't know. Haha I love it and people have always said "it was my calling". I ran from it for years. Didn't think it was for me, but the more it chased me the slower I ran. Here I am.

You have alot of lanes you're working in (rap, production, singing, producing/directing videos). Which one takes the most of your time? Which one is your passion?

All of them. I love it all. Making music takes all my time. It might take a week to do a song. The directing is fun though. The art is never ending. Something I hope to be able to do after rap is over.

What's the driving force behind you and your music?
My life. Everything i rap is real. No filler. I talk about what I know. No fairytales. So the words come easy. The music tells me what chapter I need to be on and I go from there. It writes itself.

What artist(s) do you want to work with? What artists are you listening to right now?

I've always been a Cee-Lo fan. Devin the dude. I like Currency. A few cats. If If it's inspiring i wanna work. Right now I got me in the deck though, haha. I want to work until people say "I need ERK on my songs".
Hip Hop is kinda in a weird slot right now.. What do you think needs to happen to to get it moving in a positive direction?
We need better music and for fans to support. If the music is timeless it can't go wrong. As far as business goes, we just have to bring value back to it. Quality over quanity.

Any last words?
Nerd's eye view is in stores and Erkthajerk.com is up and Running. Rpmg Imprm and s.o.w. Is all I know

[Review] A$AP Rocky - Live Long Asap (Mixtape Review)

"Long.Live.A$AP" is a good sketch of what A$AP Rocky is about, and should have you looking forward to the bigger picture he's capable of delivering.
A$AP Rocky has already RSVP'd for his spot as the next big rapper out of NYC. After parlaying his online buzz into an alleged 3 million dollar deal with Polo Grounds/RCA, the first official project to spring forth from the alliance with his new benefactors is the Live.Love.A$AP mixtape. So long as you resist the urge to feed into the hypebeasting, that pretty motherfucker drops a solid opening salvo worth his couture clothes.
A$AP Rocky not being a Dipset clone meant an instant choir of dissenters dismissing him as a rap usurper, riffing on Houston's swag for a gimmick, as soon as he was pegged as hot Hip Hop prospect. But a listen to his mixtape—if you missed his videos—reveals that he oozes Harlem bravado. It just so happens he and his A$AP crew see no problem delivering it through a purple haze that’s more homage than swagger jack. On the mixtape’s first track, “Palace,” he raps, “Don’t remember me as a wannabe New Orleans nigga, slash lean sipping Tennessee nigga, nah/Influenced by Houston, hear it in my music, a trill nigga to the truest show you how to do this.” Another clear inspiration on Rocky’s cadence is Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, which can be heard on the speedy rap flows flipped over bluesy organs on “Trilla” and throughout the mixtape.
Included on Live.Love.A$AP is "Pesos" one of the two songs that made the 23 year old such a commodity. The muffled drum kicks and spacey synths provided by ASAP Ty Beats made the tune a standout in the MC’s fledgling career. “Purple Swag” is the first song that got the A$AP Rocky chatter started revealed that the codeine sipping culture was part of his shtick as much as Alexander Wang tees and Mason Margiella kicks. However, the song is AWOL, with “Purple Swag: Chapter 2,” featuring Spaceghost Purp and ASAP Nast, and basically an extended version, in its place.
The mixtape’s grooves generally stay on the DJ Screw side of the BPMs and are provided by Rocky’s team of producers that include Clams Casino, ASAP Ty, and Spaceghost Purp. Clams Casino’s tracks are some of its best, including the ethereal “Wassup,” a track tailor made for enjoyment under the influence of whatever your drug of choice. Rocky kicks, “Only thing bigger than my ego is my mirror, clothes getting weirder, money getting longer, pretty nigga pin your hair up.” While plenty of songs stick to the styrofoam cup holding script (“Get Lit,” “Kissin’ Pink”), Rocky shows depth when he tackles topics like seeking wisdom from elders on “Houston Old Head” or reflecting on his come up on “Demons.”
Part of A$AP’s road to rap stardom has included co-signs from Drake and Jim Jones and on his debut mixtape he landed some esteemed features in Schoolboy Q (“Brand New Guy”) and Chace Infinite (“Keep It G”). However, he also gives his ASAP crew plenty of shine that could have better been used to assert his own talents. Live.Love.A$AP is a good sketch of what A$AP Rocky is about, and should have you looking forward to the bigger picture he’s capable of delivering.

[News] Drake Wants To Cut Ties With His Right Hand Man

When rapper Drake FIRST got put on . . . he was executive produced by J Prince, a legitimate businessman who has HEAVY street ties. J Prince and them took Drake to YOUNG MONEY, where he was signed. Well we just caught wind that DRIZZY is trying to CUT ALL TIES with J Prince. Of course that might not be a wise decision for Drake to make.

[Review] Tech N9ne - Welcome To Stangeland

Tech N9ne's thirteenth solo album (and fourth release of his "Collabos" series), "Welcome To Strangeland," is more than just music. It's tangible.

Strangeland sounds like it’s actually a real city. Littered with undeniable soul, wildly diverse personalities, scenic bridges, and rambunctious tracks rumbling as if an actual freight train was racing on top of them - Tech N9ne’s thirteenth solo album (and fourth release of his “Collabos” series), Welcome To Strangeland, is more than just music. It’s tangible. It’s impossible to not connect with Tech’s perspective, because his visceral commentary and bombastic array of styles and cadences are always rooted in the real.

That’s been the case throughout his decade of underground dominance and absolutely lifts the best parts of WTS. An ingrained spirituality floats through “Unfair” (featuring Ces Cru & Krizz Kalliko), “Stars,” and “Slave” (with Krizz Kalliko and Kutt Calhoun) - sometimes reverential to a higher power; sometimes directly questioning it’s existence. “Now, I say God because I’m programmed / But I believe in none / I see no interventions and I see no Holy Sons,” croons ¡MAYDAY! on “The Noose,” a solemn ode to wounded soldiers. N9ne drops some of this project’s most reflective bars: “Why we got it so good ‘cause it’s so rough / For the young soldiers who / Do exactly what they’re told to do / Damn / Do exactly what they’re told to do / Defend their country and uphold the crew / But give my one and only soul for you / That’s a helluva job description / I don’t know if my God’s with this one / But I guess it’s the laws of sick men / Send out youngin’s and they fall the victim / Of an evil clans plan / That’s why I be saying blamm! / ‘Cause on 9/11 I realized the fate is in another man’s hands.” Where the Jomeezius The Genius-produced “Beautiful Music” somehow incites sympathy for a man struggling with too many women tossing panties his way, “Sad Circus” (featuring Brotha Lynch Hung) extends on that love lorn, tortured-artist motif without ever creeping towards conventional. N9ne transitions from deep to shallow, complex to comedic like few ever.

But what else is expected from an emcee who improbably rhymes The Jetsons’ PG-rated ditty, “Eep Opp Ork Ah-Ah” with raunch like “...Then get horizontal and I’ma beat up your na-na” (as he does on the title track, “Welcome To Strangeland”)? What’s most appreciated about this “Collabo” album is that it doesn’t flow like stock collaborative releases. It doesn’t collapse under the weight of too many, poorly-utilized features. Jay Rock, Brotha Lynch Hung, ¡MAYDAY!, Krizz Kalliko and the rest of Strange Music’s talented roster are all deliberately placed and impossible to ignore, never detracting from WTS’s cohesiveness. Sure, “Bang Out” and “Won’t You Come Dirty” sit somewhere between filler and faulty, and “Kocky” sounds like a bootleg beat by Dre, but that’s chump change. At an hour in length, this LP still feels short - complete with enough side streets, segues and volcanoes in the distance that never detour from interesting. Welcome to Strangeland. Drive slow, homie.

[News] Assassination Attempt! They Tried To Kill President Obama 2011

ABC News has learned authorities are increasingly concerned that a man sought in connection with a bizarre shooting incident on the Washington Mall last week may pose a threat to President Obama.
The Secret Service now suspects that a bullet fired in this incident may have hit the White House after a bullet round was found in a White House window, though the round had not yet been conclusively linked to the incident.  The round was stopped by ballistic glass behind the historic exterior glass, while an additional round has been found on the exterior of the White House.
Police believe the suspect, 21-year-old Oscar Ramiro Ortega of Idaho, is mentally ill. Ortega has an extensive record, ranging from domestic violence to drug charges. Sources say a police investigation has uncovered evidence suggesting Ortega has a fixation on the White House.
At 9:30 p.m. Friday, police received reports of shots fired in the bustling area of 16th street and Constitution Ave.
Authorities would later find a car in the area. The suspect had fled, but what police discovered inside the vehicle left them deeply concerned: an assault style rifle and empty shell casings.
Police linked the car to Ortega and have been hunting him ever since.
It’s unclear whether Ortega is capable of launching a sophisticated attack, but police are still fearful of what he might do next.
Authorities suspect Ortega has been in the area for weeks, coming back and forth to the Washington Mall.  Before the shooting, he was detained by local police at an abandoned house. U.S. Park police say Ortega may have spent time blending in with Occupy D.C. protesters.
President Obama, who is currently on a visit to Australia, was not present at the White House at the time of the incident, and in fact has been out of town for the past week. Secret Service officials are not taking any chances with the security of the President and the White House, though, and want Ortega off the street.
